What’s Included?

The download is a CVC reading PDF. Open it and choose a task that uses sounds your child already knows. Read its directions together; there is no need to complete the whole file in one sitting.

Sound It Out, Then Check the Meaning

CVC stands for consonant–vowel–consonant. Words such as cat, bed and sun give children practice blending three sounds. Say /s/ /u/ /n/, then blend them into sun.

After decoding, ask what the word means or use it in a sentence. If a page has pictures, use them to check meaning after reading rather than to guess the printed word.
